What is Community Access TV and what does Lower Cape TV do? We provide training, studio and field production equipment, and airtime on cable Channel 17, at no cost to the residents of the Lower Cape communities we serve: Brewster, Orleans, Eastham, Welfleet, and Truro. Community Access TV is Public, Educational, Government programming (aka PEG) and is non-commercial.
My organization has planned a public event. Will Lower Cape TV send a crew to tape our event for broadcast on TV?
The common misconception is that LCTV has a paid production crew like a news gathering organization. Volunteers produce all of our programming. What our staff does is to try and match people of like interest to collaborate on such projects. We have a pool of volunteers that have been through LCTV production training. LCTV staff can point you in the right direction, but it is up to you to make the necessary contacts and to coordinate a crew for your event and to also find a producer who will see to the post-production of the taped material. (Editing, music, credits or graphics, etc.)
What does a producer do?
The producer’s job is to oversee the overall production. Typically, the access producer’s role is hands-on. The producer will develop the idea for an individual program or series and organize the crew and talent. It is the producer’s responsibility to make sure the program is completed and ready for cablecast. In some cases the role of a producer may be split between several people.
Is there a paid membership requirement to be able to use the studio and equipment?
We offer free of charge a three-hour per week, six-week production workshop that orientates our users to all aspects of television production and particularly community access TV production. Once a local resident has completed this course they are eligible to use our facility and equipment to produce programming for the channel. The requirement of taking the orientation workshop may be waived by staff if an individual can demonstrate their familiarity and prior training regarding TV production and use of equipment to LCTV staff. We supply everything you need to produce TV programs including tapes.
Where can I see a schedule of LCTV programs?
Here on our web site of course, it can also be found daily in the Cape Cod Times under the TV listing “LC17.” The community Bulletin Board also displays it about once every half hour.
How do I get an announcement or advertisement on your Community Bulletin Board?
Educational, municipal, non-profit, and religious organizations can post Public Service Announcements (PSAs) on the Electronic Bulletin Board by filling out a form that is available under the "Bulletin Board" tab on this site and can be sent via email to LowerCapeTV@comcast.net at Shankpainter Commons in Provincetown.
